Lead Chemist, Formulations

OVERVIEW:

The R&D Formulations Chemist Lead is responsible for overseeing all aspects of liquid and granular formula development of pesticides, surfactants/wetting agents and fertilizer products designed for turfgrass and agriculture environments. Individuals should be knowledgeable in the development of analytical methods and scalable manufacturing processes. Activities will include not only new product development, but also adapting/improving existing formulas to meet the needs of new global business opportunities. Functions as part of a cross-functional team, and regularly interfaces with marketing, technical sales, manufacturing, product managers, quality, regulatory and IP management.  Must be comfortable working with regulated pesticidal compounds and have a familiarity with turfgrass and/or agricultural systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads projects and initiatives designed to bring novel products to market
  • Proposes new product opportunities to the leadership team
  • Develops suitable formulation strategies and delivery techniques for business needs
  • Manages multiple projects aligned with business strategy
  • Develops international network of contract collaborator/partners
  • Builds appropriate business cases for new product opportunities
  • Continuous improvement of existing products
  • Subject matter expert that is current in area of expertise
  • Develop internal infrastructure to meet the needs to expanding portfolio
  • Capable of mentoring junior formulations personnel
  • Assists in the management of R&D budget
  • Reports to the Director of R&D.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • 5+ years of industry experience in building formulations for turfgrass and/or agriculture
  • Experience in polymer and or surfactant chemistry
  • Experience in the formulations of pesticidal active ingredients
  • Familiarity with project management
  • Responsible for formulations conception, design and execution
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills
  • Safe lab practices and record keeping experience are essential
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and in cross-functional groups

REQUIRED:

  • Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • 5+ years of industry experience
